A dedicated community and race relations enthusiast, and a prominent businessman for over three decades in the Manchester scene, Kabir has been a Director of the prestigious Hilal Group of Restaurants since 1969; he is also Director of Manchester Solutions Ltd., a member of the Finance and Audit Committee, and Remuneration Committee; Trustee of Manchester Guardian Society; he is a member of Manchester City College Corporation, Audit Committee, and Chairman of the Search and Corporate Governance Committee; a member of the General Assembly of the University of Manchester; and Chairman of Better Choices Ltd. - providing Connexions service for Manchester, Salford, Tameside and Rochdale.He was appointed to the Bench in 1985, and is now a Senior Magistrate in the city of Manchester. Kabir's involvement with Manchester Council for Community Relations (MCCR) as General Secretary, Vice-Chairman and Chairman has spanned two decades.

His continued promotion of racial harmony and the development of equal opportunities earned him an MBE from Her Majesty, the Queen, in 1998. Kabir was appointed Deputy Lieutenant of Greater Manchester from 2002.
